    September
    13–16°C·60–70 mm(moderate rain)

    RV Tips for Belgium

Belgium is compact: The coast, the Flemish art cities, and the Ardennes are rarely more than a two or three-hour drive apart. However, very different rules apply to motorhomes depending on the region.Overnight Stays and Wild CampingIn Flanders and on the coast, wild camping with a motorhome is strictly forbidden, even for a single night. Checks are frequent there.Outside these areas, an overnight stay in a car park or on the roadside is usually tolerated, provided there's no prohibitory sign and you don't obstruct traffic. Longer stays require municipal permission, or the owner's permission on private land. Many designated pitches are free and at least have a waste disposal station. You'll find campsites mainly on the coast and in the Ardennes valleys.Traffic, Environmental Zones and Speed LimitsMotorhomes over 3.5 tonnes may not exceed 90 km/h on motorways.Brussels, Antwerp, and Ghent have environmental zones. Register your vehicle online in advance, free of charge, for each city individually, and check if it meets the emission standards.Old towns like Bruges or Ghent are narrow and partly closed to through traffic. Park on the outskirts and travel to the centre by bus, tram, or bike.Regions for Motorhome TravelArdennes and Meuse Valley: winding roads, river valleys, and small towns like Dinant or Durbuy; Wallonia is the most relaxed for overnight stays.Flemish Art Cities: Bruges, Ghent, and Antwerp are best visited from campsites or pitches on the city outskirts.Coast: only plan with a campsite or official pitch, book early in summer.
