Pantai Cenang, on the southwest coast, is Langkawi's liveliest beach area. Along the long sandy beach and the parallel main road are hotels, restaurants, beach bars, and duty-free shops. The airport is just a few minutes away.
    Langkawi

    Langkawi

Langkawi is a group of about 99 islands in the Andaman Sea off the Thai border. The main island offers beaches (Pantai Cenang, Tanjung Rhu), forested mountains with waterfalls, and mangroves in Kilim Geoforest Park. Since 2007, the archipelago has been a UNESCO Geopark, also known as a duty-free zone for affordable shopping.
    Tanjung Rhu

    Tanjung Rhu

Tanjung Rhu, at Langkawi's northern tip, is a long, tranquil sandy beach overlooking wooded limestone islands. Unlike Pantai Cenang, it offers few accommodations, including a large luxury resort, and little hustle and bustle.

    Kilim Karst Geoforest Park

The park in northeast Langkawi protects a labyrinth of mangrove channels, limestone cliffs, and small coves. It is the best-known part of the UNESCO Geopark Langkawi and can only be explored by boat. Along the way, you'll see sea eagles, macaques, and fish farms on rafts.
