    Margaret River is the main town of the eponymous wine region, approximately 270 km south of Perth. The main street, Bussell Highway, is lined with cafés, restaurants, galleries, and wine bars.The coast with Prevelly's surf spots lies about 10 km to the west, while wineries, caves, and Karri forests can be reached in just a few minutes.

    The region lies on Wadandi country, whose name means “people of the sea.” Aboriginal-led tours like Koomal Dreaming explain bush tucker, caves, and coastal stories.A logging and farming settlement transformed from the 1960s, with its first wineries, into a centre for wine, food, and surf culture. The Margaret River Pro is part of the professional surf tour of the World Surf League.

    The town center can be easily explored on foot. To visit the wineries, beaches, and caves, you will need a car, a guided tour, or a bicycle.Getting there: It's approximately three hours by car from Perth, and buses also operate via Busselton.Wine tours: Guided tours offer a good alternative to self-driving, especially if you plan to enjoy some tastings.Cycling trail: The Wadandi Track follows an old railway line, winding through forest and farmland.
