    1Lover's Lane, Green Gables Heritage Place

    The Lover's Lane is one of the two short walking trails at Green Gables Heritage Place in Cavendish. Lucy Maud Montgomery named the forest path and featured it in "Anne of Green Gables". The loop trail takes about 20 minutes through a stream valley with birches and spruces. Access is part of the Parks Canada site; admission to Green Gables includes the trails.

    The Haunted Wood Trail begins directly behind the Green Gables house in Cavendish. Lucy Maud Montgomery and her friends made up ghost stories for the dark spruce forest; in the novel, Anne fears this very path. The short path leads through the forest towards the property where the author grew up, and to the Cavendish Cemetery, where she is buried.

The specialty is in the name: Poutine – French fries with cheese curds and gravy – in various versions, plus other classic snack bar dishes. Ideal for a quick stop between the beach and Green Gables – typically open only during the summer season.

    Culture & History

    Lucy Maud Montgomery grew up in Cavendish; her 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables made the region world-famous. The fishing villages of North Rustico and New London recall the Acadian and Scottish settlements. To this day, the small harbors thrive on lobster and mussels.

    Traveling

    It's about 40 minutes from Charlottetown to Cavendish. The signposted coastal route follows the shore; you need a Parks Canada Pass for the National Park. You can reach many beaches by bike via the Gulf Shore Way.
