Singapore is warm year-round, with daily averages, according to climate normals 1991–2020, between 26.8 and 28.6 degrees. The most pleasant months are February and March: February is the driest month with around 105 millimeters of rain and the most sunshine hours. June to August also bring relatively little rain, although cross-border haze can obscure the air during this time. November to January are the wettest, with December seeing around 330 millimeters. Rain mostly falls as heavy afternoon showers, so you can still plan your trip well with museums and covered Hawker Centres even during these months.
The Meteorological Service Singapore distinguishes four phases. The Northeast Monsoon from December to early March begins with a wet phase featuring prolonged rain and ends windier and relatively dry from late January. During the Inter-monsoon periods from late March to May, and in October and November, winds are light, with frequent, sometimes heavy thunderstorms forming in the afternoons and early evenings; the late-year phase is wetter. During the Southwest Monsoon from June to September, so-called Sumatra Squalls occasionally move across the island – lines of thunderstorms that can bring gusts of 40 to 80 km/h between early morning and midday.During the Southwest Monsoon and with light winds in the Inter-monsoon periods, light to moderate haze frequently occurs, according to the weather service. Additionally, transboundary smoke (haze) can form due to regional forest fires. The environmental agency NEA then publishes daily advisories based on the 24-hour PSI; you can find the current values on their website.

    Consider School Holidays

The main travel times for families often fall during school holidays (July/August in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). Plan early and book in advance, as higher prices and more tourists are expected during this time.

    Summer Holidays

Summer holidays are the most popular travel time for families. In Singapore, it can get very warm during this time – make sure to have enough shade, sun protection, and cool activities for the children.

    Family Tips for Singapore

Northern Wildlife Parks: MandaiLocated in the north of the island, the Mandai Wildlife Reserve is home to several co-located parks: the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders, and Bird Paradise. Bird Paradise opened on May 8, 2023, as the successor to Jurong Bird Park, featuring around 3,500 birds in immersive aviaries. On March 12, 2025, Rainforest Wild Asia joined as a fifth park, where families explore animals on trails through recreated rainforests. Following the opening of its second phase in May 2026, it is known as Rainforest Wild Adventure. Plan a full day for Mandai, combining the Zoo during the day with the Night Safari in the evening as needed.Playgrounds and GardensThe Jacob Ballas Children's Garden, located within the Singapore Botanic Gardens, is designed for children up to 14 years old, with free admission. Children up to 12 years must be accompanied by an adult; it is closed on Mondays except public holidays. At Gardens by the Bay, the Far East Organization Children's Garden features a water play area, also free and intended for children up to 12. It is regularly open from Thursday to Sunday and on public holidays from 9 AM to 7 PM, and from Tuesday during school holidays. In the evenings, the free Garden Rhapsody light and music show runs at the Supertrees at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM. On Sentosa, the Singapore Oceanarium opened in July 2025, a significantly larger successor to the S.E.A. Aquarium.Practical Tips for FamiliesChildren under 0.9 meters in height travel free on the MRT and regular buses when accompanied by a paying adult. For taller children under seven who are not yet in school, a free Child Concession Card also allows free travel. Hawker Centres are practical for families as everyone can order from their own stall. Due to the heat and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, plan outdoor activities for the morning, and have an air-conditioned museum or shopping mall ready for the afternoon.
