Virgin of the Immaculate Conception
The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception is an iconic landmark of Santiago, towering atop Cerro San Cristóbal. This monumental statue, inaugurated in 1908, is a significant religious symbol and offers unparalleled panoramic views over the Chilean capital and the majestic Andes. The figure itself is over 14 meters high and stands on a pedestal that houses a small chapel. Pope John Paul II blessed the statue in 1987 during his visit to Chile. You can comfortably reach the summit with the historic funicular from Bellavista or the modern cable car from Pedro de Valdivia Norte. Our Tip: Visit the statue in the early morning to enjoy the best views and avoid the largest crowds. For impressive photos of the city skyline with the Andes in the background, position yourself at the viewpoints below the statue.
