    Brinchang is the second largest town in the Cameron Highlands after Tanah Rata, located a few kilometers north of it. Strawberry farms, nurseries, and vegetable fields surround the town, above which rises the 2,031-meter-high Gunung Brinchang.An evening night market takes place in the town centre on weekends. From Brinchang, the road continues to BOH's Sungei Palas Tea Garden and up to Gunung Brinchang with the Mossy Forest.

    Kayangan Brinchang Mosque (Main Mosque)

    The Main Mosque of Brinchang is the center of the Muslim community in the town; its dome and minaret are visible from afar. When visiting, cover your shoulders and knees, and women wear a headscarf. Come outside of prayer times.

    Methodist Centennial Chefoo Centre

    On the grounds near Brinchang, the China Inland Mission operated the Chefoo School from 1952, a boarding school for missionary children, which had been founded in 1881 in Chinese Chefoo (Yantai). In June 2001, the school closed, and the property went to the Methodist Church of Malaysia. Since 2009, after a renovation, it has been the Methodist Centennial Chefoo Centre, a church guest and conference house, not a public museum.

    Bharat Company's plantations stretch up the slopes along the main road between Ringlet and Tanah Rata, a few kilometers south of Tanah Rata. They include the Cameron Valley Tea Houses right by the road, where you can taste and buy tea and look out over the tea rows.

    BOH Tea Centre (Sungei Palas Garden)

    The Sungei Palas Tea Garden, above Brinchang, belongs to BOH, the tea producer founded in 1929 by J. A. Russell, which acquired the garden in the 1950s. From the visitor centre's café and a cantilevered viewing platform, you can overlook the tea slopes. Factory tours are available, and tea can be purchased in the shop. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Closed Mondays, except on selected public holidays and during school holidays (as of 2026).

    Sam Poh Temple

    The Chinese Buddhist temple is on a hillside at Brinchang's southern edge. Halls with Buddha statues, curved roofs, and colorful embellishments rise above the town; from the complex, you overlook Brinchang. Please dress respectfully for your visit with covered shoulders and knees.

    Heritage and Culture

    Brinchang grew with the British Hill Station, which was established in the highlands from the 1920s onwards. To this day, the town's economy relies on agriculture and tourism: vegetables, strawberries, and flowers from the surrounding farms are sold in markets and at roadside stalls.Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities live in the town; accordingly, you'll find mosques, Chinese temples, and churches close to one another.

    Getting There and Around

    Long-distance buses from Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh usually end in Tanah Rata; from there, it's just a few minutes to Brinchang by Grab or taxi. In the center, you walk. For the farms, tea plantations, and Kea Farm, you take Grab, a taxi, or a booked tour. Allow more time on the winding mountain roads, especially on weekends.

    The Cameron Highlands are a mountain district in the northwest of the state of Pahang, about five hours by bus north of Kuala Lumpur. Coming from the tropical heat, visitors find a cool climate here between roughly 800 and 1,600 meters above sea level, along with tea plantations on steep slopes, vegetable fields, strawberry farms, and mountain forest.The towns line up along a winding mountain road: Ringlet in the south, then Tanah Rata with most accommodations, Brinchang, and the Kea Farm market. Plan at least two nights and bring a jacket; it gets cool at night.

    Tanah Rata is the administrative hub of the Cameron Highlands and the main base for most travelers in the region. Along the high street, guesthouses, hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies line up, and this is also where long-distance buses from Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh stop.From the town, you can reach the Parit Falls and several forest trails on foot. The Cameron Valley tea gardens are located a few kilometers south along the road to Ringlet.

    Kea Farm is a small settlement about two kilometers north of Brinchang on the main road through the Cameron Highlands. It is known for its open-air market, where vendors sell highland vegetables, fruits, strawberries, and sweetcorn, as well as snacks and souvenirs.

    Ringlet

    Ringlet is one of the three sub-districts (Mukim) of the Cameron Highlands and is located in the south of the highlands on the mountain road from Tapah. From here, Road 102 leads through the Bertam Valley towards Sungai Koyan near Kuala Lipis.The Ringlet Reservoir is located in the town, dammed by the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam for the highland's hydroelectric power plants. Ringlet is more of a supply hub for the surrounding farms than a tourist destination, with most travelers continuing on to Tanah Rata.

    The capital of the state of Perak grew rich through tin mining in the Kinta Valley. This legacy is visible in the old town's colonial buildings and shophouses, now home to cafes, murals, and historic coffee houses. Surrounding the city are towering limestone cliffs, with Buddhist temples nestled within their caves. Ipoh is also known for White Coffee and Tauge Ayam.
