Punta de Mita is a peninsula on the northern edge of Bahía de Banderas, on the Riviera Nayarit north of Puerto Vallarta. Within these private grounds are luxury resorts like the Four Seasons and St. Regis, as well as two golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus. In the town itself, fish and beach restaurants line Avenida El Anclote, and from here boats also depart for the Islas Marietas.

Playa Escondida (Islas Marietas)
Hidden beach in a collapsed rock crater on the Islas Marietas, which are protected as a National Park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Boats depart primarily from Punta de Mita, including from the Corral del Risco Cooperative; you can only reach the beach by swimming through a rock tunnel, with a life vest, when the tides permit. Access is limited to 116 people per day and approximately 20 minutes' stay, and is only possible with providers approved by the CONANP protected area authority, so book early.

La Lancha Beach
Unspoiled beach with a surf spot a few minutes' drive east of Punta de Mita. From the parking lot on the country road opposite the gas station, a path leads through the forest to the beach in 10 to 15 minutes. The wave is considered mellow and is suitable for beginners and advanced surfers alike; there's no shade or service at the beach, so bring water and sun protection.

Playa Destiladeras
Approximately five kilometers of fine sand beach on the old road between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Punta de Mita, about 15 to 20 minutes' drive before the peninsula. Waves depend on tides; swimming is usually possible near shore. Bodyboarding and SUP are popular. A beach club rents palapas and has parking; buses stop directly opposite. Natural shade is scarce.

Mexican restaurant on the ground floor of Hotel Mesón de Mita, right on the beach. The focus is on fish and seafood, such as tuna steak and seafood pozole, complemented by mole poblano, tableside guacamole, and a wide tequila selection. Sometimes live music.
Beachside spot on El Anclote Avenue, sister restaurant of MINA. The menu features grilled fish, shrimp tacos, ceviche and tableside guacamole, plus margaritas with fresh lime juice. Great for sunset.
Upscale Mexican restaurant by chef Thierry Blouet on Avenida El Anclote, with tables in the dining room or under a beachfront palapa. Known for its Raicilla-flambéed "Temazcal" shrimp, tuna toast, and grilled octopus. Reservations recommended.
Beach restaurant with wood-fired cuisine, influenced by Italian and Argentinian flavors, featuring local vegetables and seafood. Highlights include the 'Hot Rock' appetizers, where beef or tuna is cooked tableside on a hot stone, and the lobster pizza.
