Amidst fishing trawlers, seals, and historic harbour buildings, you'll find shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, the Zeitz MOCAA, and the Two Oceans Aquarium. Ferries to Robben Island also depart from here.

    Museum

    1Zeitz MOCAA

    The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa opened in 2017 in a converted grain silo from 1921. Architect Thomas Heatherwick carved the concrete tubes into a cathedral-like atrium. Across several floors, the museum showcases contemporary art from Africa and the African diaspora.

    3Two Oceans Aquarium

    The aquarium exhibits marine life from the two oceans meeting off the Cape Coast. Highlights are the Kelp Forest exhibit, the penguins, and the large Ocean Tank with sharks and rays. A good activity with kids when it's windy or rainy.

    4Clock Tower

    The red Gothic Clock Tower from 1882 once served as the harbourmaster's office. Next to it is the Nelson Mandela Gateway, where Robben Island ferries depart.

    Arrival and On the Go

    The Waterfront is located about two kilometers north of the city center. MyCiTi buses connect it with the center; from the airport, you transfer at Civic Centre. The Hop-on-Hop-off buses also start here. Most visitors arrive by Uber or Bolt. Everything within the premises is reachable on foot, and there are several parking garages.

Since 1999, Robben Island has been a UNESCO World Heritage site and a museum.

    The Cape Peninsula stretches from Cape Town about 50 kilometers south to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. On the Atlantic side, Chapman's Peak Drive leads along steep cliffs; on False Bay lie Muizenberg, Kalk Bay and Simon's Town with the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. The south is part of the Table Mountain National Park.
