Spa has around 10,000 inhabitants, and its center is easily walkable. Most sights are close by, surrounding the Place Royale, the Parc de Sept Heures, and the Pouhon Pierre-le-Grand. Its bathing tradition is special: Peter the Great took the waters here in 1717, and in the 18th century, European nobility gathered in Spa. Modern thermal baths are above the city and can be reached by funicular.
