    Places & Regions for RVs

These places and regions in Germany are particularly well-suited for RV travel.

    Spreewald

    Spreewald

The Spreewald is a water landscape southeast of Berlin, crisscrossed by over 970 kilometers of natural and artificial waterways. Since 1991, it has been recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. It is divided into the larger Oberspreewald in the south and the smaller Unterspreewald in the north, which meet near Lübben. The cultural landscape was significantly shaped by the Sorbs, and cucumbers are cultivated on approximately 500 hectares. The best way to experience the region is by punt: Punted trips depart from places including Lübbenau, Lübben, Lehde, and Burg.
    Schwabing

    Schwabing

Schwabing was an independent town until 1890, when it was incorporated into Munich. Around 1900, artists and writers made the district famous: Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej Jawlensky, and Franz Marc shaped the Blauer Reiter movement, and from 1896, the satirical magazine Simplicissimus was published here, with Thomas Mann serving as an editor for a time. To this day, the main axis is Leopoldstraße, which starts at the Siegestor and made headlines in the 1960s due to the Schwabinger Krawalle. You can stroll along Leopoldstraße, sit in pubs and bars around Münchner Freiheit, and visit the Englischer Garten, which directly borders the district. Further west, Luitpoldpark awaits with its panoramic hill. U3 and U6 stop at Münchner Freiheit, so you're just a few minutes from Odeonsplatz or Marienplatz.

    RV Tips for Germany

RV Pitches and CampsitesGermany has a dense network of campsites and motorhome pitches. Pitches usually provide supply and disposal, but less comfort than a campsite. According to ADAC, a night at a campsite in high season costs around 40 Euros on average nationwide for two adults and a child, with clear differences between regions. Pitch and camping guides, as well as apps, help with the search. What's PermittedWild Camping: Free camping in nature is generally forbidden in Germany, especially in national parks and nature reserves. Violations incur fines.Overnight Stays in Parking Lots: A single night in your vehicle to „restore driving fitness“ is usually tolerated in public parking lots, if no prohibitory sign is present. Setting out tables, chairs, or an extended awning, however, counts as camping.Regional Rules: Each Bundesland has its own rules, and some parking lots are expressly closed to motorhomes. Pay attention to the signage. On the Road with an RVEnvironmental Zones: If an environmental zone is in effect, your motorhome will also require a green sticker.Narrow Old Towns: Historic town centers are often difficult for large vehicles. Park on the outskirts and walk or take a bus.Peak Season: During summer holidays, popular lakeside and coastal spots fill up fast. Book campsites in advance or travel during the off-season.
