General Suitability

• Safety: General safety for families barely differs from that for adults. In tourist hotspots and during the day in bustling centers, risks are often minimized. However, general vigilance is advisable, as in any foreign country. Research specific regions beforehand.
• Climate: Mexico's tropical climate, especially on the coasts, is characterized by high temperatures and humidity. For small children, sufficient sun protection, light clothing, and regular hydration are essential. The dry season from November to April is often considered a more pleasant travel period.

• Beaches: The shallow, sandy beaches of the Caribbean coast (e.g., near Playa del Carmen or Tulum) are excellent for families. There are also sections with calm water on the Pacific coast.

• Museums: In larger cities, particularly Mexico City, you will find interactive children's museums like the Papalote Museo del Niño. Archaeological sites like Chichén Itzá or Palenque can also be fascinating, but plan for shorter visit times and shaded breaks here.

Practicalities

• Baby Food and Diapers: In supermarkets in larger cities and tourist centers (like Walmart, Soriana, Chedraui), a good selection of baby food and diapers from common brands is available. Outside these areas, availability may be limited. It is advisable to bring an initial supply.
• Medical Care: Tourist areas and large cities have private clinics and doctors, often with English-speaking staff. A well-stocked travel first-aid kit, especially for fever, diarrhea, and mosquito bites, is essential. Ensure adequate mosquito protection due to the risk of Dengue and Zika fever.
• Drinking Water: Consume only bottled water, even for brushing teeth. Avoid ice cubes not made from purified water.

Accommodation & Food

• Accommodation: Many hotels and resorts, particularly in touristically developed regions, are geared towards families. They often offer family rooms, kids' pools, and sometimes even kids' clubs or childcare services.
• Food: Mexican cuisine is diverse. For children, there are many milder options like quesadillas, tacos without spicy sauce, rice, beans, or grilled chicken. Mobility

• Stroller Accessibility: In many cities and at archaeological sites, stroller use is often limited due to uneven sidewalks, cobblestones, or a lack of ramps. An ergonomic baby carrier is often the more practical alternative in many situations.
• Child Seats: The availability of child seats in taxis is not standardized. When renting a car, you should definitely book a child seat in advance and obtain confirmation of its availability. Public buses generally do not have secure attachment points for child seats.
