Nusa Lembongan is a small island between Bali and Nusa Penida. White bays, mangroves, seaweed farms, and a relaxed island life define it, and the neighboring island Nusa Ceningan is accessible via a yellow suspension bridge.
Nusa Lembongan is about four kilometers long and can be crossed by scooter in half an hour. In the northwest is the main town of Jungutbatu, offering a harbor, accommodations, and views of Agung; in the southwest are the bays Mushroom Bay, Dream Beach, and Sandy Bay. To the northeast, mangroves line the coast; in the south, a yellow bridge leads over to Nusa Ceningan. The island is more relaxed than Bali, but well-developed for tourism, with dive schools, beach bars, and accommodations for all budgets. Many use it as a base for trips to Nusa Penida.

    Culture & Character

From Seaweed to TourismUntil the 2010s, many families on Lembongan and Ceningan lived from cultivating seaweed in shallow underwater gardens between the islands. With growing tourism, many farmers have transitioned, but some fields are still cultivated and can be observed at low tide. The yellow suspension bridge to Ceningan collapsed in October 2016 during a ceremony, killing nine people. It has since been rebuilt. As on Bali, Hindu temples and offerings shape daily life; in Jungutbatu stands the Pura Puseh temple.
