The Roquebrune-Cap-Martin Castle stands above the mountain village of Roquebrune, between Menton and Monaco, and is considered one of France's oldest castles. It dates back to the late 10th century, when the Counts of Ventimiglia had it built to protect against Saracen raids. From 1355 to 1848, it belonged to the Grimaldi of Monaco, along with Roquebrune and Menton. You ascend through guard rooms, dungeons, and living quarters up to the Donjon. From the top, you can overlook the coast from Menton to Monaco and Cap Martin. Our Tip: The light is best in the morning, and it's cooler.

The Basilica Saint-Michel Archange is a prominent landmark of Menton, majestically enthroned above the Old Town. Its construction began in the 17th century, specifically 1619, and it was completed in the opulent Baroque style, making it an outstanding example of this era on the Côte d'Azur. You will be immediately captivated by its impressive facade and the distinctive bell tower, visible from afar. Inside, you'll discover rich adornments, magnificent altars, and elaborate frescoes that reflect the region's history and faith. The basilica's acoustics are particularly noteworthy, making it a popular venue for classical concerts, especially during the renowned Menton Music Festival. From the forecourt, you'll enjoy a spectacular panoramic view over the rooftops of the Old Town, the harbor, and the azure Mediterranean Sea. Our Tip: Visit the basilica in the late afternoon to capture the golden light on the facade and experience the sunset over the sea. For the best photo of the bell tower with the Old Town in the foreground, position yourself on the Place du Parvis Saint-Michel. Note that access is via several steps within the Old Town.

The Château Diodato is a building on the coast between Menton and Monaco, in the municipality of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. You should clarify in advance whether and at what times it can be visited. Our tip: Combine this detour with a walk along the coastal path at Cap Martin.

The Jardin botanique Val Rahmeh-Menton in Menton, France, is an impressive oasis of biodiversity that you absolutely must visit. Originally established in 1905 by Sir Percy Radcliffe, former Governor of Malta, the garden was later significantly expanded by the English botanist May Campbell into a collection of rare plants from around the world. Since 1966, it has been managed by the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle and now serves for the acclimatization and preservation of endangered plant species. Here you will find an exceptional variety of subtropical and tropical plants, thriving splendidly thanks to Menton's unique microclimate. Particularly noteworthy are the collections of citrus fruits, exotic fruit trees, and aquatic plants. A special highlight is the rare Sophora toromiro, a tree originally from Easter Island, successfully cultivated here. Stroll through the various themed areas and discover plants from Asia, America, and Oceania. Practical Tip: It's best to visit the garden in the morning to optimally enjoy the tranquility and soft light for photos and avoid the largest crowds. Pay special attention to the signage to learn more about the origin and significance of individual plants. Plan at least two hours for your visit to explore the entire garden at your leisure.

The Russian Orthodox Church of Menton commemorates the Russian winter community that came to the Riviera in the late 19th century due to the mild climate. It was built in 1892 according to plans by the Danish architect Hans Georg Tersling, blending Western and Eastern architectural styles. It is dedicated to Our Lady “Joy of All Who Sorrow” and Saint Nicholas. Inside, there are frescoes by Prince Gagarin and numerous icons. Damaged during World War II, it was restored in 1958. Our Tip: The interior is currently mostly inaccessible, but you can always view the facade from the outside.
