    The Bukit Teresek is a 334-meter-high hill behind the park headquarters in Kuala Tahan and the classic first hiking destination in Taman Negara. The trail starts flat in the rainforest, then becomes steeper and mostly leads over wooden boardwalks, partly over roots and rope sections, up to viewpoints with views over the park.

    Taman Negara is Malaysia's most famous national park, founded in 1938/39 and covering approximately 4,343 square kilometers. Its lowland rainforest is often considered among the oldest on Earth. The ascent to the 334-meter-high Bukit Teresek begins at the park headquarters, leads through dense forest, and ends at viewpoints above the treetops. Start early in the morning for cooler temperatures; take plenty of water and sturdy footwear.

    The Hill in the Context of the Park

    Bukit Teresek is located in the Pahang portion of Taman Negara, which was protected as King George V National Park in 1938/39. The area belongs to the traditional lands of Orang Asli groups; Batek communities continue to live on the park's periphery to this day.

    How to get there

    From Kuala Tahan, you take a small ferry to the Park Headquarters. There, the path to Bukit Teresek begins. Within the park, you cover all routes on foot or by boat.

    The Canopy Walkways (Jambatan Kanopi) of Taman Negara traverse the rainforest on suspension bridges connecting platforms in the treetops. There are two walkways near Kuala Tahan: the approximately 530-meter long path at the foot of Bukit Teresek, opened in 1992, and the approximately 700-meter long path near Seberang Ara, which, according to the Mutiara Taman Negara Resort, officially opened on June 22, 2026.The old path at Bukit Teresek was closed in 2024 due to safety concerns; in May 2025, lightning struck its main support tree. A reopening date was not known in October 2025; please inquire locally for the current status.
