    Culture

    In the 19th and 20th centuries, Portimão was a center of the fish canning industry. Its story is told by the Museu de Portimão, housed in an old factory. Grilled sardines remain the city's hallmark to this day, with a sardine festival held in summer.

    Traveling

    Portimão, on the Algarve railway between Lagos and Faro, has a station just outside the center. Local buses link the center and Praia da Rocha. Long-distance buses run to Lisbon. For Ferragudo and Alvor, take a bus, taxi, or car.
