Featherbed Nature Reserve
The private nature reserve is located on the western of the two Heads and is only accessible by boat. The ferry departs from the Knysna Waterfront; on the other side, a circular path leads back over cliffs and beach. You must book the excursion in advance.

The island in the lagoon, once a timber yard, is now a district with a harbour, shops, cafés, and restaurants. You can reach it via a causeway, on foot or by car.

Culture and History
Knysna grew in the 19th century thanks to the timber trade from its surrounding forests. The Thesen family shaped the town with shipbuilding and timber processing, hence the name Thesen Island. Today, the town is home to many artisans and galleries.

The nearest airport is George, about an hour's drive away. Waterfront, downtown, and Thesen Island are within easy walking distance. For the Heads, forests, and coastal excursions, you'll need a car; Uber is also available in town.
