    2Gericke's Point

    The rocky outcrop at Swartvlei Beach is accessible via the beach at low tide. Around the rock, you'll find tidal pools, and anglers are often here early in the morning. Check the tides beforehand to avoid being cut off.

    The Saturday morning farmers' market on the N2 is the local gathering spot. Find bread, cheese, cakes, breakfast, and handicrafts. Come early; much sells out by noon.

    Culture & History

    Sedgefield was established in the 20th century as a holiday settlement. As Africa's first Cittaslow town, it belongs to the movement that promotes local products, community, and a slower pace of life. There are no major historical monuments, but plenty of small galleries and markets.

    On the Go

    George Airport is about 40 minutes away. In town, you can get around on foot or by bike, but for beaches further afield and trips along the Garden Route, you'll need a car.

    Plettenberg Bay, or Plett for short, is the Garden Route's most popular seaside resort. Long sandy beaches, the hiking trails in Robberg Nature Reserve, and whales in the bay define the town.
