Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay, often affectionately called "Plett", is a central coastal town on South Africa's famous Garden Route. Here you'll find an impressive mix of long sandy beaches like Central Beach and Lookout Beach, as well as protected nature reserves. Particularly noteworthy is the Robberg Nature Reserve, a peninsula with striking cliffs and hiking trails offering spectacular views of the bay and sea. The reserve is also an excellent spot to observe seal colonies and spot whales during the season. Culturally, Plett has evolved from a former whaling station into a hub for sustainable tourism, focusing on marine conservation and eco-adventures. In the Keurbooms River Nature Reserve, you can go canoeing or explore the rich birdlife, offering a contrast to the coastal activities. The best time for whale watching is between June and November, when Southern Right and Humpback Whales visit the bay.
