    Läckö is located on Kållandsö, the second largest island in Vänern, north of Lidköping. Here stands Läckö slott, one of Sweden's best-preserved Baroque castles. Its origins date back to 1298, when Bishop Brynolf Algotsson of Skara founded a fortified castle here. The castle received its current appearance in the 17th century under Count Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie. Opposite lies Naturum Vänerskärgården in Victoriahuset, a few steps further is the fishing harbour Spiken.

    1Läckö Slott

    Läckö slott is situated on a promontory of Kållandsö by Lake Vänern and is among Sweden's best-preserved Baroque castles. In 1298, Bishop Brynolf Algotsson of Skara established a castle here; in 1527, it passed to the Crown, and in 1618, to Jacob De la Gardie. Count Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie gave the castle its present appearance in the 17th century. Highlights include halls with wall paintings, the castle church, and the castle garden. In the high season of 2026 (June 14 to September 13), the castle was open with admission including a guided tour; from October 1 to November 22, only guided tours are offered (Fridays 2 PM, Saturdays 11 AM and 2 PM, Sundays 11 AM, in Swedish); from November 22 to December 20, it is closed.     2Naturum Vänerskärgården – Victoriahuset

    Opposite the castle, the Naturum Vänerskärgården lies in Victoriahuset. The exhibition explores life in Vänern and archipelago nature; the same building also houses a hotel and restaurant. Dogs are not permitted in Victoriahuset. Outside peak season, the Naturum opens selected days only; in autumn 2026, Fridays-Sundays.

    3Spikens Fiskeläge

    A stone's throw from the castle, Spiken Fishing Port is one of Europe's largest inland ports and a vital centre for Swedish inland fishing. At the port, stroll along the fishing boats and sample fish from Lake Vänern.

    4Wanderwege auf Kållandsö

    Kållandsö, the second largest island in Vänern, where Läckö is located, is great for hiking. Marked trails such as the Kållandsö Natur- och Kulturstig lead through forests and along bays, with views over the lake.

Many canal journeys begin or end here, and visitors come to watch the boats pass through the locks and take a break in the harbour. The first lock by the lake is popularly known as Sjöslussen. The canal season for boats is limited to summer. In 2026, the high season ran from June 16th to August 12th; find current times at gotakanal.se.
