    June
    September
    12–15°C·60–75 mm(moderate rain)

    RV Tips for Ireland

Is Ireland worth it with a motorhome? The coastal routes in the west, especially the Wild Atlantic Way, are very popular with camper travellers. However, the infrastructure is sparser than in France or Germany: there are significantly fewer pitches, and particularly on the west coast, affordable spots with supply and disposal become scarce in summer. With a compact campervan, you have a clear advantage on the narrow roads.Getting there: You can reach Ireland with your own vehicle by ferry directly from France (Cherbourg, Roscoff) or via Wales (Holyhead, Fishguard, Pembroke).Left-hand traffic: With a left-hand drive vehicle, you'll be close to the road's edge; encounters on narrow roads require patience.Overnight StaysCampsites: There are over a hundred sites nationwide, many only open from spring to autumn. Prices range from about 15 Euros at basic sites to around 50 Euros at popular coastal locations. For July and August, you should book early.Stopovers (Aires): Some communities, pubs, and farms offer simple motorhome stopovers with water and disposal, for example, at Cobh harbour. Their number is growing but is still manageable.Wild Camping: A large part of the country is private property, and wild camping is not permitted without the owner's permission. Many car parks at beaches and viewpoints have height restrictions or overnight parking bans.Practical TipsHeight Restrictions: In city centres and at many car parks, height restrictions apply; in multi-storey car parks, they are often around 2 metres. For cities like Dublin or Galway, plan for a spot outside with bus or train connections.Supply and Disposal: Public toilets at harbours and in towns are often closed at night; therefore, empty your cassette and greywater at campsites or Aires.Routes: Sections like the Ring of Kerry or pass roads on the Dingle Peninsula are challenging for large vehicles; check in advance if a direction of travel is recommended for buses and motorhomes.
