The largest cities are Nijmegen, the capital Arnhem, and Apeldoorn.The rivers Nederrijn, Lek, and Waal traverse the province from east to west, and the IJssel flows north to the IJsselmeer. Between these rivers lies the Betuwe, known for its fruit cultivation, and in the southeast, the agricultural Achterhoek.
