The Southwest National Park in Tasmania is Australia's last great wilderness and part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Here you'll find an untouched landscape of alpine plateaus, dense rainforests, and rugged coastal stretches. The South Coast Track is the most renowned long-distance hiking trail through this spectacular, remote wilderness. Historically, this remote area was home to the Aborigines and later a refuge for escaped convicts. Extreme weather conditions and its remoteness require extensive equipment and bushwalking experience. Ideally visit between November and April, but always be prepared for sudden weather changes.
