    The white village of Vejer de la Frontera lies on a hill near the Costa de la Luz with views to the Strait of Gibraltar. Winding, flower-adorned streets, the well-preserved town wall with gates such as the Puerta de Sancho IV, the Plaza de España with its fountain of Sevillian tiles, and viewpoints like the Mirador de la Cobijada characterize the place.

    The square originated in the 16th century when the city grew beyond its walls, and bullfights took place here in the 16th and 17th centuries. In the center stands a 1955 fountain made of brick and Sevillian ceramics with four frogs, which is why locals also call the square 'Plaza de los Pescaítos'. The town hall is located on the square, and all around you'll find cafés and bars.

    The castle dates back to a Moorish complex of the 10th and 11th centuries and likely marks the oldest inhabited part of Vejer. After the Christian reconquest, it was rebuilt, and in the 16th century, it served as a residence for the Dukes of Medina Sidonia.
