    The Noosa National Park starts right at the end of Hastings Street. The Coastal Walk leads over cliffs to bays like Tea Tree Bay and Granite Bay up to Hells Gates. Often you'll see koalas in the trees, and from June to November, whales off the coast. The Fairy Pools are dangerous when the surf is high.

    The History

    This land belongs to the Kabi Kabi. Noosa's name probably comes from a Kabi Kabi word for shade. European loggers came in the 19th century; from the 1960s, Noosa grew popular with surfers, later becoming a holiday resort. The community has focused on limited growth for decades; consequently, the coast here is less developed than further south.

    Out and about in Noosa

    From Sunshine Coast Airport in Marcoola, it's approximately 30 minutes. Buses connect Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Sunshine Beach and Tewantin. During Christmas and Easter holidays, some routes are free, and parking on Hastings Street is scarce.A ferry operates on the Noosa River between Tewantin and Noosa Heads. You can easily get between the beaches on foot or by bike.
