    Kingfisher Bay Jetty

    A long pier in front of the resort, where the ferry docks. In the evenings, it's a popular spot for sunset, and in the water below you often see fish and sometimes dolphins.

    McKenzie's Jetty

    Remnants of an old timber loading pier north of the resort. The row of piles in the water makes a great photo opportunity at sunset. Accessible on foot along the beach.

    Culture and History

    Land of the ButchullaThe west coast of K'gari is Butchulla land, where they lived off the rich fishing grounds of the Great Sandy Strait.Timber and TourismNorth of the resort stand the piles of the old McKenzie's Jetty, from which timber was loaded in the 20th century. The resort itself was built in the 1990s and extensively set into the forest.

    Getting There & Around

    A passenger and vehicle ferry departs from River Heads near Hervey Bay, reaching Kingfisher Bay in about 50 minutes. The resort area is explored on foot.Guided 4WD tours and bus excursions depart directly from the resort.4WD rental cars are available on the island and in Hervey Bay.For private drives, a permit from Queensland Parks is required.
