The Seventy-Five Mile Beach on K'gari, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, is a unique natural highway for 4WD vehicles. Along this impressive coastline, you'll discover the rusty wreck of the Maheno, a passenger ship stranded in 1935, creating a distinctive backdrop. North of there, the natural rock pools of the Champagne Pools offer safe swimming opportunities, while the freshwater flow of Eli Creek provides a refreshing alternative. From Indian Head, an exposed lookout point, you can often spot sharks and rays in the ocean. For safe navigation of the tidal beach, be sure to plan your visit at low tide. Due to strong currents and the presence of sharks, swimming in the open ocean here is not advisable; instead, use the sheltered pools or the island's numerous freshwater lakes.
