    Opened in 1931, the lock connects Ringkøbing Fjord with the North Sea and regulates the water level in the fjord. It led to the creation of Hvide Sande. From the bridge, you can see cutters entering and exiting, and seals and anglers are often seen in the lock basin.

    The 1906 lighthouse stands about five kilometers north of town on a high dune. Climb a steep spiral staircase to the gallery for views over the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord, downstairs there is a small museum and a café.

    A Place Shaped by the HarbourBefore the lock opened in 1931, there were hardly any settlements at this point on the spit. With direct access to the North Sea, Hvide Sande quickly grew into a fishing town. To this day, cutters, auction halls, and net storage facilities shape the harbour. The Fiskeriets Hus museum tells this story.In summer, holidaymakers and watersports enthusiasts dominate life in the town; outside the season, it becomes quiet and the fishing industry comes back into focus.

    The town is small; the harbour, lock, and beach are all within walking distance. Road 181 crosses the spit, heading north towards Søndervig and south to Nymindegab, with a cycle path running parallel.Buses connect Hvide Sande with Ringkøbing, where you can connect to the train. For trips along the coast and to Lyngvig Fyr, a bicycle is ideal, and rental bikes are available in town.
