    The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is located in the far northwest of South Africa on the border with Botswana and Namibia, approximately 250 kilometers north of Upington. Red Kalahari dunes and two dry riverbeds characterize the landscape; here live black-maned lions, cheetahs, oryx, and springboks.

    Twee Rivieren Rest Camp

    The largest camp and main entrance on the South African side, with a reception, border post to Botswana, shop, petrol station, restaurant, and pool. Most journeys into the park begin here; allow some time for formalities upon arrival.

    Nossob Rest Camp

    Secluded camp on the Nossob riverbed, several hours' drive north of Twee Rivieren. At the camp's floodlit waterhole, lions, hyenas, or jackals often appear in the evenings. The area is considered good for raptors and big cats.

    Camp in the west of the park by the Auob riverbed, right on the border with Namibia. The route from Twee Rivieren along the Auob is considered one of the best for cheetahs and lions. With a floodlit waterhole, shop, and fuel station.

    Die trockenen Flussbetten des Auob und Nossob sind die Lebensadern des Parks und die Hauptrouten für Wildbeobachtungen.     As the Kgalagadi is primarily a self-catering park, the shop in Twee Rivieren is the best stop for basic groceries, drinks, and even braai meat. Sometimes there's also a small selection of simple hot meals or takeaways, which you can enjoy in the relaxed atmosphere of the camp, perfect for re-energizing after a long drive.

    Small shop at Nossob Camp with groceries, braai wood, and drinks for self-caterers. The park only has a restaurant in Twee Rivieren, so plan your meals accordingly.

    Mata-Mata Shop & Refreshments

    Similar to the other main camps, Mata-Mata also features a small shop, supplying travelers with essentials – from groceries for your Braai to refreshing drinks. As this is a self-catering park, dining options are mostly limited to what you prepare yourself or find in the shop, which is ideal for enjoying the undisturbed nature and tranquility.

    The Kalahari People

    The Kalahari has been home to the San for millennia, who lived here as hunter-gatherers. Following the end of Apartheid, the ‡Khomani San and the Mier community regained land rights in and around the park in 2002. On the southern edge of the park, they run projects such as the !Xaus Lodge, where you can learn more about their culture.

    A day in the park

    The main tracks on the South African side between the three camps are sand and gravel roads, usually passable in normal conditions even with a high-clearance car. For routes on the Botswanan side and some wilderness camps, you need a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Outside the camps, exiting is only permitted at marked spots. Fuel stations are only in the main camps; never depart with a half-empty tank. Guided game drives can be booked at the camps.
