Lovina is the collective name for several villages on the north coast, about ten kilometers west of Singaraja. The sea here is mostly calm, and the beaches have dark volcanic sand. Well-known are the sunrise boat trips to dolphin pods off the coast, though often very crowded. The hinterland features waterfalls like Gitgit and Sekumpul, the hot springs of Banjar, and the Buddhist monastery Brahmavihara-Arama. Lovina is quieter and more affordable than South Bali.
