Schloss Frederiksborg
Frederiksborg Castle, situated in Hillerød on three islands in the Castle Lake, exemplifies notable Nordic Renaissance architecture. Built by King Christian IV in the early 1600s, it served as royal residence and coronation church for Danish monarchs. Today, it houses the Museum of National History, offering deep insights into Danish history from the Middle Ages to the present. Explore magnificent halls like the Great Hall, the Castle Chapel with its ornate organ, and the Audience Chambers. Especially noteworthy is the expansive Baroque Garden, terraced up the slope, featuring symmetry with water features and hedge labyrinths. Our Tip: To avoid crowds and enjoy the tranquility of its grounds, visit the castle right after opening. For an iconic photo, the view from the lake's opposite shore is recommended, especially in the morning when light is ideal.
