Provins, a medieval fortified town in Île-de-France, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and testifies to the importance of European trade in the 12th and 13th centuries as a centre for the Champagne Fairs. You can walk along the well-preserved town walls and climb the Caesar Tower, which offers expansive views. The underground passages, the Souterrains de Provins, reveal a unique network of historic cellars and tunnels. The former market hall Grange aux Dîmes and the Rose Garden are other key attractions. For an authentic experience, a visit during the annual Medieval Festivals in June is highly recommended. Spring and autumn offer a quieter exploration of the cobblestone streets outside of peak season.
