    From Amusement Park to Shopping Street

    Origin and Amusement ParkBukit Bintang (Star Hill) is named after a hill near the former Malay village of Kampung Dollah. In 1947, film company Shaw opened the Bukit Bintang Amusement Park here, an amusement park that was for a long time a popular city meeting spot.Malls and ShophousesThe district's oldest shopping center, Sungei Wang Plaza, was built on the park grounds in 1977. It was later joined by malls such as Lot 10, Starhill Gallery, and Pavilion. Older two-story shophouses still stand on side streets like Changkat Bukit Bintang, now home to bars, hostels, and restaurants.

    The Bukit Bintang MRT station (Kajang Line, opened 2017) is located under Jalan Bukit Bintang. The Monorail stops at Bukit Bintang, Imbi, and Raja Chulan stations. When transferring between MRT and Monorail, you must check out and back in.An elevated, covered walkway leads from Pavilion to KLCC towards the Petronas Towers.Evenings see heavy traffic; for short distances, walking is often faster than Grab.

Around a lake, you'll find lawns, ancient giant trees, themed gardens, and shady paths where people jog and practice Tai Chi in the mornings.Within and around the park, you'll discover the Orchid Garden and the Hibiscus Garden, the KL Bird Park, the National Monument Tugu Negara, and the National Museum. Come in the early morning or late afternoon, as it gets very hot on the open spaces at midday.
