Catedral de Morelia
The Catedral de Morelia, a Baroque masterpiece, shapes Morelia's cityscape with its imposing towers and distinctive pink cantera. Its construction spanned from 1660 to 1744, explaining its architectural complexity and intricate detail. Here you'll find a fascinating blend of styles that evolved over nearly a century of construction. Particularly striking are its two 66-meter-high towers, among the tallest cathedral towers in Mexico. Inside, a rich array of features awaits: note the ornate silver baptismal font and the figure of the Señor de la Sacristía, a rare Christ depiction made from corn paste. Another highlight is the famous "San Gregorio Magno" organ, also known as "Monarca," one of the largest and most sonorous organs on the continent. For the best facade photo, we recommend early morning when the light beautifully highlights the pink stones and the Plaza isn't yet crowded. In the evening, the illuminated cathedral is also a stunning sight.
