Catedral de Morelia
The Catedral de Morelia, an architectural masterpiece in the heart of the historic center, is a defining landmark of the city. Its construction began in 1660 and lasted until 1744, resulting in a fascinating blend of Baroque and Neoclassical elements. You'll immediately notice its imposing towers, which are among the tallest in Mexico and built from the region's characteristic pink stone (Cantera Rosa). Inside, a rich interior awaits you, including the monumental organ from Germany, the silver baptismal font, and a precious monstrance adorned with diamonds. This cathedral is not only a place of faith but also a central part of Morelia's UNESCO World Heritage site. Our Tip: Visit the cathedral in the early morning to capture the special light on the pink stone and avoid the largest crowds. For an impressive perspective and photos, we recommend the view from Plaza de Armas. On Saturday evenings, there is also often a captivating light and sound show that spectacularly illuminates the facade.
