Palacio de Bellas Artes
The Palacio de Bellas Artes, an iconic cultural center in Mexico City, combines impressive architecture with a rich artistic history. Construction began in 1904 under the Italian architect Adamo Boari, but the building was only completed in 1934 by Federico Mariscal. You will discover a fascinating blend of Art Nouveau on the exterior and Art Deco inside, all clad in noble Carrara marble.Inside, the palace houses not only the National Theatre and the National Opera, but also significant murals by Mexican masters. Here you can admire works by Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, José Clemente Orozco, and Rufino Tamayo, which depict important epochs of Mexican history and culture. These monumental frescoes are a highlight of your visit and offer deep insights into the national identity. Our tip: To avoid the crowds, it's best to visit the palace right after opening in the morning. For a spectacular panoramic view of the palace and its surroundings, we recommend visiting the observation deck of the nearby Torre Latinoamericana. The lighting conditions there are particularly good for photos in the late afternoon.
