Torre de Menagem (Torre das Três Coroas)
The castle's marble keep towers over the upper town. From the top, you'll see far across the Alentejo. The former royal castle next to it now hosts a Pousada. The castle grounds also feature a chapel for Queen Isabel, who died here in 1336.

King Dinis and Queen Isabel resided in the castle at times; the Queen died here in 1336 and is revered as a saint in Portugal. Marble from Estremoz, Borba, and Vila Viçosa was used for structures throughout the country.Well-known are the Bonecos de Estremoz, small painted clay figures depicting scenes from daily life and religion. Their creation has been intangible UNESCO cultural heritage since 2017. You can buy them at the Saturday market and in the city's workshops.
Traveling
The Upper and Lower Towns are reached on foot; the path to the castle is steep. Long-distance buses travel to Lisbon and Évora. For Evoramonte, Vila Viçosa, and the marble quarries, you'll need a car.
