    The "Isla Bonita" charms with its lush nature, the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, and excellent conditions for stargazing. From September 19 to December 13, 2021, the Tajogaite volcano erupted on the Cumbre Vieja ridge. Its lava covered approximately 1,219 hectares in the island's west, in the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane, and Tazacorte.     1Caldera de Taburiente National Park

    The national park, founded in 1954 in the center of the island, encompasses the massive basin of the Caldera de Taburiente, with a diameter of around seven kilometers. Its floor lies at 600 to 900 meters, while the surrounding rock rim rises to over 2,400 meters. Unlike many volcanic landscapes of the Canaries, the Caldera is rich in springs and streams.

    At around 2,426 meters, the Roque de los Muchachos is La Palma's highest point and closes off the Caldera de Taburiente to the north. Its name refers to approximately three-meter-high rocks resembling a group of boys. On the summit ridge, the observatory, inaugurated in 1985, houses numerous telescopes; clouds below the peak keep light from coastal towns at bay.

    The volcanic cone south of Los Canarios, in Fuencaliente municipality, lies at the southern end of the Cumbre Vieja – the island's geologically youngest part and an active north-south eruption axis. The 1677 eruption was long attributed to it, though it's now known the cone is several thousand years old.

    The laurel forest of Los Tilos near San Andrés y Sauces is part of Las Nieves Natural Park in the island's northeast, one of the best-preserved laurisilva forests in the Canary Islands. The visitor center provides information on the natural park. From here, hiking trails lead into the gorge with its waterfalls.

    The square in the island’s capital, with the main church El Salvador, the town hall, a stone fountain, and noble houses, is considered the most important ensemble of Renaissance architecture in the Canary Islands. From here, Calle Real leads through the old town, featuring palaces such as Palacio Sotomayor. On Avenida Marítima, you'll see the famous houses with wooden balconies.
