    Lugo in Galicia is primarily known for its fully preserved Roman city wall. The Muralla Romana was built between around 260 and 325, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000, and defines the cityscape. On its good 2.2-kilometer-long wall-walk, you can walk around the old town once.Within the walls lies the Catedral de Santa María de Lugo, whose construction began in 1129 in Romanesque style. Remains of Roman baths are preserved in the city's thermal spa. Lugo is known for its tapas bars; in some, you get a small tapa with your drink. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds.

    The 3rd-century Roman city wall encircles Lugo's Old Town for over two kilometers and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. It features 85 mostly semi-circular towers and ten gates today, while in Roman times there were five.

    The University Museum on Praza de Pío XII, directly by the city wall, exhibits the remains of a Roman house. In late antiquity, a part of it was used as a Mithraic sanctuary. The museum belongs to the University of Santiago de Compostela and opened in 2018.

    3Ponte Vella (Roman Bridge)

    The bridge over the Miño in the southwest of the city dates back to the Romans and was part of the road from Lucus Augusti to Bracara Augusta, today's Braga. It was extensively renovated in the Middle Ages and the 18th century, but its basic structure is largely original. The 104-meter-long bridge is now reserved for pedestrians.

    The cathedral stands in the old town near the Roman wall and replaced a church from the year 755. Construction began in the 12th century and it was consecrated in 1273; later, Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical elements were added. Thus, the edifice combines Romanesque basic forms with elements from several centuries.
