Aurora Sky Station

The Aurora Sky Station, located high up on Mount Nuolja in the heart of Abisko National Park, is considered one of the world's best places for observing the Northern Lights. Its outstanding location is thanks to the so-called "blue hole" of Abisko – a unique microclimate created by the surrounding mountains, ensuring significantly fewer clouds than in other Arctic regions. This geographical peculiarity significantly increases the probability of experiencing the fascinating Aurora Borealis. You can comfortably reach the station via an approximately 20-minute chairlift, which already offers stunning views over the snowy landscape. Once at the top, a large, wind-sheltered viewing platform awaits you, along with an informative exhibition on the science and mythology of the Northern Lights, and a small café. Our Tip: Make sure to book your chairlift and station visit tickets well in advance, as capacities are limited and demand is very high during the winter months (December to March). Dress extremely warmly in several layers, as temperatures on the mountain can drop far below freezing, even without wind. A sturdy tripod and a camera with manual settings are essential for successful Northern Lights photography.
