Chronicle
A Castle in the LakeFrands Brockenhuus had Egeskov built in 1554 during a turbulent period following the Reformation and Civil War. The name means Oak Forest; according to tradition, an entire forest was felled to build its foundation of oak piles. Arrow slits and the thick wall between the two houses attest to its defensive function.Since the 18th century, the castle has been owned by the same noble family and is still inhabited today.
On-site Adventures
By car, you can reach Egeskov from Odense in about half an hour, and there are large car parks at the castle. The nearest train station is in Kværndrup, on the Odense–Svendborg line. From there, Bus 920 takes you directly to the entrance. Walking would be about 2.5 kilometres along the busy main road.On the grounds, you'll be exploring on foot; the paths are mostly flat and suitable for prams.
