The small town originated as a railway station and is quieter than Banff. In July 2024, a wildfire destroyed about a third of the buildings in the town; reconstruction is underway, and some trails and facilities in the surrounding area were temporarily closed – check Parks Canada's current advisories before your visit.

    The **Lac Beauvert** is located a few kilometers east of the town and is known for its clear, green shimmering water. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge stands on its shore; a roughly 4 km long loop trail encircles the lake. In summer, you can rent canoes and pedal boats at the Lodge.

    The Patricia Lake is located on Pyramid Lake Road a few kilometers north of Jasper. During World War II, engineers here tested a model aircraft carrier made of Pykrete, a mixture of ice and wood pulp, as part of the secret Project Habakkuk; its remains lie on the lakebed. Today, the lake is tranquil and suitable for canoeing with views of Pyramid Mountain.

    The Jasper SkyTram takes you in just a few minutes up The Whistlers, the local mountain south of town. From the top station at around 2,260 m, a steep path leads further to the summit, from which, on a clear day, you can see Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. The tram typically operates from spring to autumn.

    Jasper, nestled in the majestic Rocky Mountains, does not feature urban subways, metros, or trams; getting around here focuses on individual exploration and seasonal offerings. Fortunately, the compact village core is extremely pedestrian-friendly, inviting visitors to comfortably explore shops, restaurants, and the local atmosphere on foot.To explore the breathtaking National Park landscape, a personal vehicle – be it a rental car or a bicycle (e-bikes are also popular) – is almost essential, as public bus services outside the village are very limited and primarily serve seasonal attractions. Taxis are available within the village, but established ride-sharing services are largely absent in this remote region.Therefore, it's best to plan your excursions in advance, keeping in mind that many of the most beautiful viewpoints are only accessible by car or a longer bike ride. Low traffic and picturesque surroundings make driving or cycling in Jasper an unforgettable part of the experience.
