Its striking landmark is the five-sided *Citadel*, built in the late 16th century under Philip II. The **Cathedral of San Pedro**, begun in the last quarter of the 11th century and one of Spain's oldest Romanesque buildings, attests to Jaca's position on the Aragonese *Camino de Santiago*. In its cloister, the Diocesan Museum displays Romanesque murals from surrounding churches. Discover the old town with its alleys and enjoy the local cuisine in traditional establishments.     The Cathedral was begun in 1077 under King Sancho Ramírez and is considered the first Romanesque cathedral in Spain. In the Diocesan Museum, opened in its premises in 1970, you will see Romanesque murals, including a large cycle of paintings from the Creation of Adam to the Ascension of Christ.

    Philip II had the pentagonal citadel built from 1592 according to plans by Tiburcio Spannocchi. It is considered Europe's only fully preserved fortress of its type. Inside, the Military Miniatures Museum displays over 35,000 lead figures in 23 scenes.

    The medieval stone bridge over the Río Aragón below the town presumably dates from the 15th century. It is one of the few surviving bridges from this period in the Aragonese Pyrenees and has been a protected monument since 1943.

    The Gothic secular building on Plaza de la Cadena dates from 1445. The city bought it in 1599 to install a clock and used it as a prison from 1602, hence its name Torre de la Cárcel.
