    2Santa María la Real

The church directly next to the Royal Palace served as the palace church for the kings of the House of Évreux. Its main portal, completed around 1300, is one of the most significant ensembles of Gothic sculpture in Navarra, and in front of it lies a 15th-century atrium. The Renaissance-style high altar was installed in 1528 and displays 28 oil paintings.

The church's construction began in the 12th century and spanned several centuries, thus Romanesque and Gothic forms intermingle. At the main portal, Saint George battling the dragon and a centaur fighting a harpy are visible. Prominently visible is the 52-meter-high Gothic tower with a pointed spire, the Torre Aguja.

Beneath Plaza Carlos III run two parallel vaulted passages, approximately 50 meters long, which experts date to the late 13th or early 14th century. Their original function is not definitively known; later, they are believed to have housed a market or stonemason workshops. Since 1987, they have been accessible and feature an exhibition on life in the Middle Ages.
