    At the extreme tip of the sand spit, the waves of Skagerrak and Kattegat meet, you can stand with one foot in each sea. From the car park, it's about a 30-minute walk through the sand; alternatively, the Sandormen tractor bus operates. Swimming is forbidden due to the current. If you're lucky, seals are on the beach.

    3Skagen Grey Light

    Built in 1858 to N. S. Nebelong's designs, the 46-meter-tall Grey Lighthouse stands just before the headland. Climb about 200 steps to the platform for views over Grenen and the two seas. The building features a migratory bird exhibition.

    The culinary scene around Grenen is heavily shaped by its seaside location and offers you fresh fish and seafood. Alongside traditional Danish dishes, you'll also find modern interpretations of Nordic cuisine. For instance, Skagen Bryghus A/S serves hearty dishes with locally brewed beer.

    History of the Promontory

    For centuries, many ships ran aground off Grenen; the waters around the sandbank are treacherous. Early beacons were built here; the Grey Lighthouse dates from 1858.During WWII, German occupiers built bunkers in the dunes, some accessible today. The Skagen Painters found many motifs on the beaches around the headland.

    On the way to Grenen

    During the season, a bus runs from Skagen station to the Grenen car park; by bike, you're there in about 15 minutes. The final stretch is car-free. On foot, it's about a 30-minute walk through the sand, or you can take the Sandormen tractor bus.

    Marstrand is a small island town north of Gothenburg, characterized by its maritime history and Carlsten Fortress. You reach the car-free island of Marstrandsön from Koön via a ferry that runs 24/7 and takes only about two minutes. The Carlsten Fortress, once a defensive fortification and prison, towers over the town and offers expansive views of the archipelago. Well-preserved wooden houses line the streets of the old town, and the harbour is a renowned sailing centre. In the 18th century, Marstrand was a free port, and in the 19th century, it became a popular seaside resort. Outside the peak season in July, it is significantly quieter. An approximately 5 km circular path leads around the island, past cliffs and swimming spots.
    Rubjerg Knude

    On North Jutland's North Sea coast, the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse sits on a 60m cliff amid a migrating dune. Due to sea erosion, the tower was relocated roughly 70 meters inland in 2019. Up top, enjoy wide views of the dune and North Sea.
    Løkken

    Løkken

    Løkken is one of the best-known seaside resorts on Jutland's North Sea coast. Its wide sandy beach with white bathing houses stretches for miles, and cars are allowed on the sand. In summer, the town is crowded and lively; outside the season, it is quiet. Fishing cutters are still pulled directly onto the beach today.
