Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three most scenic views, is an impressive, pine-covered sandbar that elegantly winds its way through Miyazu Bay. You can best experience this 'Bridge to Heaven' from Kasamatsu Park, ideally through the traditional 'Matanozoki' pose, where you bend down and view the landscape between your legs, making it appear like a bridge to the sky. The surrounding Tango Peninsula offers a rugged coastal landscape with picturesque fishing villages and a rich cultural history. Here you'll find traditional craftsmanship, especially the production of Tango Chirimen silk, known for its texture and quality. Visit Chion-ji Temple at the southern end of the sandbar, known for its pagoda and the deity of wisdom, Monju Bosatsu. A boat trip through the bay offers a different perspective of the sandbar. The best times to visit are spring and autumn, to make the most of the mild temperatures and clear views.
