It is worth the trip above all for the works of Antoni Gaudí such as the Sagrada Família, Park Güell and Casa Batlló, all of which you can experience in one city. In the heart of the old town, the Gothic Quarter Barri Gòtic invites you to explore its narrow lanes and historic squares. Along the bustling La Rambla you feel the pulse of the city, while the El Born district offers boutiques and cafés. For an authentic experience, visit market halls such as La Boqueria or take a stroll through the Gràcia district. The best time to travel is spring or autumn, to explore the sights in pleasant temperatures and enjoy the beaches of Barceloneta.

    The Sagrada Família in Barcelona is Antoni Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage site, under construction since 1882. Of the three main facades, the Nativity and Passion facades are complete, while the Glory facade is still under construction. In February 2026, the central Tower of Jesus Christ with its cross was completed, making the basilica, at 172.5 meters, the tallest church in the world. Its architecture combines Gothic forms with Modernisme and tells biblical stories. Inside, you stand amidst a forest of tree-like columns, and depending on the time of day, the colored stained-glass windows bathe the space in cool blues or warm orange hues. Our Tip: Visit the basilica right after opening or in the late afternoon, when the light is most beautiful and the crowds are smaller. Book tickets online in advance to avoid waiting times.

    The Casa Batlló in Barcelona is an outstanding masterpiece of Catalan Modernisme, which Antoni Gaudí redesigned between 1904 and 1906. Originally a conventional residential building, Gaudí transformed it into a visionary work of art at the request of the Batlló family, and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. You'll notice the organic, wave-like facade, whose balconies resemble skulls and columns bones, earning the building the nickname "House of Bones".The roof, often interpreted as a dragon's back, is covered with iridescent ceramic scales and crowned by a tower with a cross. Inside, the maritime theme continues, with arched ceilings and stained-glass windows. A central light well is designed with blue tiles for optimal light distribution. Gaudí almost entirely avoided straight lines, creating a unique sense of space. Our Tip: It's best to visit Casa Batlló right when it opens in the morning to avoid the crowds. For the perfect photo of the entire facade, position yourself on the opposite side of the street.

    The Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona is an outstanding example of Catalan Modernisme and was built between 1905 and 1908 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. This concert hall is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a living symbol of Catalan culture and identity. Since 1997, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When you enter the Palau, an explosion of colors and forms awaits you: You'll see artistic mosaics, sculptures, vibrant stained-glass windows, and an impressive glass dome that bathes the concert hall in natural light. Every detail, from the floral motifs to the busts of famous musicians, testifies to the architect's visionary design. Our Tip: Be sure to book a guided tour to fully grasp its history and hidden details. The experience becomes even more intense if you attend one of the numerous performances; the acoustics and ambiance are incomparable. To avoid crowds, a visit in the early morning is recommended.

    The Santa Maria del Mar is an outstanding example of Catalan Gothic architecture and a landmark of Barcelona's La Ribera district. Built between 1329 and 1383, it was supported by the common people and the district's guilds: The port's stone carriers, the *bastaixos*, dragged the stones and are still depicted on the main portal's doors today. The church also gained fame through Ildefonso Falcones' novel *The Cathedral of the Sea*, which is set during its construction. You will notice the simplicity and harmonious proportions of the interior, which captivates with high, slender columns and a wide span. Pay attention to the stained-glass windows, which create a special play of light. *Our Tip:* Visit the church early in the morning to experience the tranquility and light and avoid the largest crowds. For a photo of the facade, the Plaça de Santa Maria is ideal.

    5Camp Nou

    Camp Nou in Barcelona is the home stadium of FC Barcelona and a significant symbol of Catalan identity. It was opened in 1957, replacing the smaller Camp de Les Corts, and in terms of seating capacity, it was Europe's largest stadium. Since June 2023, it has been undergoing extensive renovations. In November 2025, the club returned to the stadium with an initial capacity of around 45,000 seats, and by March 2026, over 62,000 seats were available. Upon completion of the work, currently expected in 2027, it is planned to offer around 105,000 seats.Through the Spotify Camp Nou Experience, you can visit the stadium even during the construction work; it recounts the club's history and showcases the progress of the renovation.     Gaudí planned the park from 1900 to 1914 for Eusebi Güell as a garden city of over 60 villas; only three houses were built. At the entrance are two gatehouses with playful roofs, a grand staircase leads to the large terrace square; walls and benches are clad with mosaics made of ceramic shards. Gaudí's former home in the park is now the Casa-Museu Gaudí.

    Barcelona looks back on a multifaceted history, ranging from its Roman origins as Barcino to its role as a center of Catalan culture. The city developed from a Roman colony and experienced a golden age in the Middle Ages as a trading power on the Mediterranean, which is still reflected today in the Gothic Quarter. Modern times brought a strong expression of Catalan identity, rooted in language, traditions, and political aspirations.Barcelona's architectural heritage is shaped by Modernisme Català, a local form of Art Nouveau. The most famous example is the work of Antoni Gaudí: Park Güell as well as the Nativity Façade and the Crypt of the Sagrada Família are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Lluís Domènech i Montaner created the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Hospital de Sant Pau, and Josep Puig i Cadafalch also shaped the city around the turn of the century with his buildings.Cultural peculiarities include traditions such as the Sardana, a communal circle dance, and the Castells, the human towers, both of which are expressions of Catalan identity. The Diada de Sant Jordi on April 23rd, the Day of the Book and the Rose, is another example of a deeply rooted local tradition. Barcelona was also an influential place for artists like Picasso and Miró, whose works have a permanent place in city museums.
