Begun in 1575 on the Zócalo's south side, the cathedral was consecrated in 1649. Its nearly 70m high bell towers are Mexico's tallest; inside, the High Altar and the side chapels with onyx and marble work stand out.

Puebla was founded by the Spanish in 1531 and is located at an altitude of approximately 2,135 m between Mexico City and Veracruz. Its Old Town, with its Cathedral, the Rosary Chapel, and numerous facades adorned with Talavera tiles, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987.The city is considered the birthplace of Mole poblano and Chiles en nogada and is a good starting point for Cholula and the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl.

Zócalo de Puebla
The tree-lined main square, with the fountain of Archangel Michael, has been the center of Puebla since the city's founding in 1531. Under the arcades (Portales) on three sides are cafés and restaurants; the Cathedral stands to the south.
Museo Amparo
Opened in 1991, the Amparo Foundation Art Museum occupies two 17th and 18th-century colonial buildings that belonged to the Hospital de San Juan de Letrán, founded in 1534. The collection ranges from pre-Hispanic pottery and sculpture to colonial art and contemporary art.
Biblioteca Palafoxiana
Bishop Juan de Palafox y Mendoza donated his book collection to the public in 1646; the library is considered the first public library in the Americas. The Baroque reading room in the Casa de la Cultura behind the Cathedral features three-story wooden shelves and has been part of the UNESCO Memory of the World Register since 2005.
Casa del Mendrugo
Restored old town house on Calle 4 Sur, previously part of Colegio de San Jerónimo. Its small museum features Puebla-Oaxaca archaeological finds (urns, burial vessels, conch shells) and Talavera. Inside, a restaurant offers Poblan cuisine; live music on weekends.
Museo Casa de Alfeñique
The Baroque house was named in the late 18th century for its ornate facade, reminiscent of Alfeñique, a sugar paste. It passed to the state in 1896, and in 1926, the State of Puebla's first museum opened here. Today, on two floors, it exhibits living areas, traditional costumes, carriages, and objects of city history.

Chiles en nogada
Poblano chilies filled with meat and fruit, topped with walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds, in the colors of the national flag. Season is in August and September.

Large sandwich in a sesame bun, topped with breaded meat, avocado, cheese, and the herb Pápaloquelite.
Chalupas

History and Culture
Colonial City and TalaveraPuebla de los Ángeles was founded as a Spanish city on April 16, 1531, evolving into a center for trade and craft on the route between Mexico City and the port of Veracruz. Characteristic are its facades clad with Talavera tiles and Baroque churches, the most famous example being the Capilla del Rosario, built between 1650 and 1690.
